There were probably a million tweets from the Hyperdub twitter account about Ikonika and I slept on all of them. I’ve learned my lesson.
“Many people with jobs have a fantasy about all the amazing things they would do if they didn’t need to work. In reality, if they had the drive and commitment to do actually do those things, they wouldn’t let a job get in the way.”
— Paul Buchheit on What to do with your millions (via Signal vs. Noise)
I think this quote is relevant to artists who believe people should subsidize their lives just for being Artists. They make excuses about jobs and other responsibilities hindering their art but the truth is that anyone can devote extra time to create his art, whether it be a few hours a day or a half an hour a week.
These limited hours force you to become more focused.
Simply being an artist entitles you to nothing. Much the same way that leasing some space and setting up a store doesn’t entitle a business owner to anyone’s money. You’ve got to work for it.
Oh yeah…I forgot to mention that the atoms version of Reactor is available on CD Baby. Packaged in a full-color jacket and recorded in stereo sound on the revolutionary compact disc format. Order now. Of course, the bits version is still free.
Artists will probably feel worthless after watching this. I know I do. :(
Just bought Black Sands today. This album is incredible.
Featuring “Ghost (Part 2)”
